Deux Mamelles
Overview
Morne Deux Mamelles is the highest mountain at the end of the southwestern peninsula of Haiti, west of Les Anglais and Jérémie, and is far from any road. It has a unique curved (‘U’) shape and is 1281 meters in elevation at its highest point, with 2408 hectares of land above 800 meters. Most of the 769 hectares of land above 1000 meters in elevation is covered with original forest on limestone rock, especially on the southern ridge and southwestern slope. In 2011, biologists made a one-day visit and the mountain is unprotected.
