Overview
Morne Tête Boeuf is a narrow, east-west oriented ridge in the southern part of the Tiburon Peninsula, north of Saint-Louis du Sud. It rises to 1370 meters in elevation at its highest point, and 3809 hectares of land are above 800 meters (1231 hectares above 1000 meters). Original cloud forest still exists along the high ridge, but trees are actively being destroyed. On a brief one-day visit in 2012 by helicopter, a team of biologists found a diversity of vertebrates including 13 species of frogs, 4 species of reptiles, and 8 species of birds. Bad weather was a factor in the low bird numbers. Among the frogs were two new species unique to the mountain. Tête Boeuf is unprotected.
